THIS MUST BE SIGNED BY BOTH THE PARENT AND STUDENT ENROLLED IN THE COURSE:
The Child Development Course will cover many topics throughout the year, including:
- Sex and Conception
- Prenatal Care
- Birth and the birthing process
- Birth Defects (project topic) *
- Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases (project topic) *
- Postpartum Disorders
- Family Planning and Family Life Cycles
- Abuse (Shaken Baby Syndrome/Child Abuse/Child Neglect/Partner Abuse)
*The students in this course will be required to complete projects on: Sexually Transmitted Infections and Diseases and their effects on Newborns; and Birth Defects, as well as other topics. They will be required to watch a videoed birth. They will be required to participate in the Reality Care Baby Project, in which they will be responsible to caring for a robotic ‘baby’ for 5 complete days. If damaged, the student will be responsible for the replacement cost for the ‘baby,’ which is $1,000.
