COACH ALEXIS SHAFER
7th Grade Science & JH Girls Coach
JH Girls Sports You Code: T3PX7MQM
I am so excited to be here at WFGMS and IPCISD! I grew up in Big Spring, TX and graduated from Big Spring High School in 2013. I took a full ride scholarship to Howard College in Big Spring where I graduated with my associates in 2015 and then continued my education at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX and completed my Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2017. I taught 2 years of 2nd grade ELAR at Greenwood Elementary, Greenwood, TX (Midland). From there I went to Blue Ridge Middle School, Blue Ridge, TX, and taught for 3 years in 6th/7th ELAR and coached JH girls volleyball, basketball, and track. This is my 2nd year being at WFGMS and I have loved it!
My parents and extended family live throughout the Wichita Falls area (WF, Iowa Park, Burk, Seymour, etc). My dad graduated from Old High (1988) and my mom graduated from Iowa Park (1992). My husband, Rodey Shafer, is an ex-Hawk, and graduated from Electra in 2012. We actually met in Big Spring at Howard College and have been together for 9 years, married for 4 years. He is currently one of the agriculture teachers and FFA advisors at Burkburnett High School. We have a very spoiled 3 year old blue heeler named Briar.
This is my 5th year being a JH girls coach and I LOVE it!! I was an all-year athlete and partcipated in volleyball, basketball, and track in high school. Coaching was not an end goal for me, but when the opportunity came to me, I walked through that door and have been here ever since. I can truly say that coaching is a highlight of my career and the girls I coach make coming to work easy! I have a passion for teaching kids fundamentals in sports skills that leads them to high school sports. We work closely with the high school coaches to make sure that the girls are prepared for whatever the next phase of their life is.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to email me or call the school!!
