Mr. Fortson attended Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor's of Music Education in the fall of 2020. Mr. Fortson had the privilege of studying trumpet with Dr. Andrew Stetson during his time at Texas Tech University. Mr. Fortson was a member of the Goin' Band from Raiderland from 2015 to 2018, as well as a section leader for the Goin' Band trumpets from 2017 to 2018. Mr. Fortson was also a member of the Texas Tech Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles, and the TTU trumpet ensemble.
Mr. Fortson had the opportunity to compete at many music competitions and festivals during his time at TTU, including the CBDNA clinic with the Symphonic Band in 2016, TTU jazz festival from 2016 to 2019, and various performances with the TTU trumpet ensemble, including TMEA in 2016, the International Trumpet Guild conference in 2018, and the National Trumpet Competition from 2017 to 2019.
Mr. Fortson's responsibilities for the Iowa Park Band Program include leading all aspects of the WFGMS Band Program: 6th grade beginning band classes, teaching the 7th and 8th grade Advanced Band Ensemble, teaching the high school marching band, assisting with Varsity Wind Ensemble, and teaching the high school jazz ensembles.
Mr. Fortson's professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB), North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA), and the International Trumpet Guild (ITG).
In his free time, Mr. Fortson loves to play with his dog Roscoe, watch anything Star Wars related, and play video games on his PC.
Mr. Fortson is excited to start his third year with the Iowa Park Band Program, as well as help continue the long-standing history of success and achievement in the Iowa Park CISD band program!
