    Examples of possible classroom accommodations:

    • Oral administration of text or written material
    • Extra time to complete assignments
    • Text to speech
    • Speech to text
    • Copies of notes
    • Note taking assistance
    • Audiobooks
    • Reduced/shortened assignments
    • Word banks
    • Blank Graphic Organizers
    • Spelling assistance

Texas State Student Assessment Program Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

Not all accommodations suitable for instruction are allowed during the state assessments. State assessments are standardized tools for measuring every student's learning in a reliable, valid, and secure manner.  An accommodation used in the classroom for learning may invalidate or compromise the security and integrity of the state assessment.

For the purposes of the statewide assessments,  students needing accommodations due to a disability include the following:

    • Students with an identified disability who receive special education services and meet established eligibility criteria for certain accommodations
    • Students with an identified disability who receive Section 504 services and meet established eligibility criteria for certain accommodations
    • Students with a disabling condition who do not receive special education or Section 504 services but meet established eligibility criteria for certain accommodations

For students who receive special education or Section 504 services, the decision for student use of accommodations during statewide assessments is made by the ARD or Section 504 committee. In cases where a student does not receive special education or 504 services, the decision is made by the campus level team, such as a student support team.
