Dyslexia
Not all children learn to read, write, and spell in the same way. Despite conventional and appropriate classroom intervention, some students continue to struggle in these areas. Some of these students may have a reading disability known as dyslexia. Students who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia may need an intervention program to help them be successful in school. Iowa Park IPCISD offers a dyslexia program on each campus for students who meet eligibility criteria. Students will be served by a trained dyslexia therapist (CALT) or a teacher trained in the program on their campus which includes the components of phonemic awareness, sound-symbol association, orthography, morphology, syntax, reading comprehension, and reading fluency. Students identified with dyslexia will be given support and appropriate instructional interventions in order to be successful in their academic career.
Our Mission: Every student with dyslexia, through intervention and support, will become a life-long learner and thrive in their academic and professional life.
Take Flight is an Orton Gillingham based multisensory structured language dyslexia curriculum for students identified with dyslexia. Intensity (small group size, extended length of sessions and treatment, individualized lessons) is what distinguishes dyslexia intervention from regular reading instruction. Take Flight was developed by the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia & Learning disorders at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.
